BIO

Orla Garriques is a multi-faceted professional working at the intersection of film, television, digital media, arts and education.

 

Orla started in advertising, then fell into the arts which lead to curating and programming for over a decade before moving into multi-medium production herself and twenty plus years working in the creative and entertainment industry.

 

Working with award-winning production companies in development, business affairs, marketing, digital content and audience engagement, her Film/TV credits include: Little Mosque on the Prairie, Designer Guys, Style Dept., Goldmind, Guns, Skin Deep, Jozi-H, Love Jacked and Dreams of the Moon. 

 

She has delivered initiatives promoting Canadian content and talent abroad for leading media institutions The National Film Board of Canada, VTape, South African Documentary Filmmakers’ Association and Revue Noire France, and has programmed films, panels and presentations for Toronto International Film Festival, Hot Docs, Reelworld, Durban FilmMart and Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO).  

 

Garriques has produced / collaborated on several DM projects including DruMeBa, developed at CFC Media Lab and MaRS Institute; NFB’s award-winning I Was Here and Street Health Site+Sound series with Kat Cizek; Little Mosque on the Prairie’s first digital project; Made In Canada documentary turned online platform, capturing over 200 interviews Canadian influencers in mediascape; and BMH25: The Future is Now a virtual tribute to the Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine and the 25th Anniversary Black History Month for Heritage Canada. She is currently working with June Givanni and King’s College London on the Pan Africa Cinema digital archive. 

 

She co-founded the MIC Mentorship youth in-field training and access program, has facilitated the MaRS Future Leaders Kid’s Boot Camp and the StArt program for underserved youth.  An Alumna and Mentor at CFC and mentor at OCADU Digital Futures, she is a consultant and facilitates business design and marketing workshops for Indie and Commercial professionals.  


Orla is the Marketing Director for Inner City Films, overseeing marketing, exhibition and export strategy for film and tv properties. She sits on the board of The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT), the Advisory Council of the Centre for the Study of Black Canadian Diaspora (OCADU), and the Advisory committee of CFC Media Lab Fifth Wave for female digital entrepreneurs.
