A BRIEF GLIMPSE

BEHIND THE SCENES

ORIGINS | HISTORY | LEGACY

Created in 1995 by Cameron Bailey, Planet Africa was a Festival programme dedicated to cinema from Africa and the African diaspora. Programmed by Cameron Bailey, followed by June Givanni and then Gaylene Gould, it ran as a part of the TIFF Festival for 10 years.

In the ten years  (1995 - 2004) that Planet Africa ran, it successfully launched careers, created new audience and solidified Toronto as  multicultural destination for world-class cinema.

2020 marks the 25th Anniversary of the program.

To celebrate, TIFF's PLANET AFRICA 25 special edition program (September 10 - 19, 2020) will add several new films, talent and events to the Planet Africa Legacy.
